The Making of Max Payne

Oct. 30, 2015, 8:35 p.m.
The Making of Max Payne

A little over 14 years ago, the original Max Payne was unleashed on the public by 3D Realms & Remedy Entertainment. It was a big new step for both companies, ad they had collaborated earlier on a top down racing game called Death Rally in the 90's. A lot of time and effort went into the Max Payne series, and to look at some of it, we're bringing you this look back at the making of Max Payne. This feature lifts the lid on the development of the all action classic which includes testimony from 3D Realms co-founder Scott Miller and former Remedy employee Peter Hajba on the all action classic, including often untold information about the large contribution 3D Realms made to the game. This piece was originally written for Retro Gamer magazine issue 143 by freelancer James Churchill. If you want to see more of his writing/geekiness you can follow James on Twitter at @Churchy99...

3D Realms Office History Part II

As you probably know, the offices of 3D Realms these days reside in Aalborg, Denmark. This is a relatively new development, as Interceptor bought the company known for such titles as Duke Nukem, Max Payne, Wolfenstein 3D, and many many others. This second part (of four) focuses on the longest serving offices, which operated from 1991 to 2002 out of the Broadway Blvd location.
